In FLUID&FREQUENCY, Kankan explores the ethereal mixture of media beyond its usual possibilities. In turn, the exhibit is as much an immersive experience as a brush is immersed in paint, or deep music seeps deep into our ears. One might say that it is a drowning of senses, but really, it is a coming together of experiences both visual and auditory. Techniques and devices used are elementary in order to produce work that conveys things elemental. Ebb and flow suddenly becomes non-exclusive to liquid. Waves conveniently refer to both sound and motion, maybe even energy. Light may be used not only to illuminate the work, but to participate in it, thus highlighting brilliance of thought. In the exhibit, there is time and space for everything, literally. One would be prescribed to view the work at a certain pace, at a specific place. There is reason for that. Almost oxymoronically, one might feel a sort of stillness in the work— a kind of mindfulness that lets us settle in a contemplative mood. And as one find the self marveling at the finished work, in the end, the mind is her ultimate canvas where art happens, and where meaning flows.
