Kankan Ramos (Filipino, b. 1976) was born in Manila, Philippines. Early in her life, she was exposed to art through summer workshops and instantly fell in love with the craft. She pursued her passion in her studies, immersing herself in an education system that would allow her to develop her skills.
In 1996, Kankan graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, majoring in Advertising. She entered the Ad world as a means to make ends meet, but continued to pursue her passion for painting, producing various works and participating in several group exhibitions.
Experimenting with different styles and techniques, Kankan uses her experiences from being a mother and a digital marketer to create her own unique blend of art. She recently held her first solo exhibit About: Face – a look into the many aspects of being a woman, as expressed in various portraits.
The art of Kankan Ramos is a colored testament to the inner world, molded from undulations of life and circumstances . Her works draw from personal experiences and feelings within. Each face, each vista, gives form to the emotions and realizations that have impacted her journey and variegated her being. Kankan uses art as a means to explore identity, relations, and metamorphosis of the self with an approach grounded in observation and experimentation. Stroke by stroke, she produces a layering of insights and experiences that accrue on the canvas as they have on her soul.
